10 July 2017, Port-au-Basques to North Sydney Ferry

10 July 2017, Port-au-Basques to North Sydney Ferry

It was the last day in Newfoundland as I took the ferry back to the mainland.  I list some of the bird sightings from the ship, which were few and far between.  I am headed home after a successful field season.

A desolate and barren part of the park but it is rich in geological history.  I heard one Savannah Sparrow singing there.

It started out windy and became progressively more windy as the day went on.  We had beautiful views of the lake and rock formations left behind by various geological events including glaciation and uplifting from the earth's Mantle.

We were on the boat for the Western Brook Pond tour for 20 minutes and they turned the boat around.  They cancelled the trip because of the fog that drifted in.  We re-scheduled for Thursday and went to Earle's for dinner for traditional Newfoundland cuisine.

It was one of the only sunny spots in the park today.  We took the trail down to the falls which was flat and easy.  I had to have a local delicacy - seal flipper on the grill with some Cabernet Sauvignon - after an easy hike.
