30 May – 2 June, 2012

On 30 May, 2012, I travelled first to my in-laws house in Phillipsburg, PA for a visit. I drove next to spend the night camping in Mill Bluff State Park, Wisconsin on 31 May, 2012. I finally arrived at my study site in Higgins Gulch in the Black Hills of South Dakota near Spearfish Canyon on the night of 1 June, 2012. I put together some photos and day-lists for these localities.

MacGillivray’s Warbler Blog 2012

During the summer of 2012 I am beginning a research project on macrogeographic variation in song of the MacGillivray’s Warbler. This species breeds in the Rocky Mountains from the Northwest Territories to the southwestern United States. There are also 3 isolated populations: one in the Black Hills of South Dakota, a second population in the Cypress Hills along the Saskatchewan/Alberta border and a third population in Nuevo Leon, Mexico.

The goal for me this summer is to cover the heart of the breeding range by sampling in South Dakota, Wyoming, Idaho, Nevada, California and Oregon. I will be reporting in to this blog with updates on my field work including bird sightings,
